Our finest day

March 6, 2008

Last night, at the jam session at Coole’s house, our band reached or creative and musical apex (so far). It was a night of wonders, with impromptu solos, guest appearances from babies and even a final set list. That’s right. We have figured out our songs and have crafted them to perfection. The only things left to do are:

1. Remember all the words

2. Start and stop playing at the same time

3. Get the crowd on our side.

Not too worried about number three.

Oh, and if you want lyrics, here you go. A little hit from the Stray Cats.

“We’re gonna rock this town, rock it inside out
We’re gonna rock this town, make ‘em scream and shout
Let’s rock, rock, rock man rock, rock
We’re gonna rock till we pop, We’re gonna roll till we drop
We’re gonna rock this town, rock it inside out”

I’m ready. Only a few weeks to go.

Jam Session

March 5, 2008

The time to jam is now!! Actually, a few hours from now.  Doug and I are going to practice in the Coolehouse basement tonight in preps for the big gig.  Above is a shot of my BR-8 Digital Recording Studio.  If we have time we may lay down some tracks on that puppy.  For those of you who are keeping a meticulous log of our progress, here are a few highlights:

  • We haven’t finalized our set list yet
  • I haven’t learned the words to any of the songs
  • We aren’t quite sure how to tune our guitars

Okay that last one isn’t completely true.  That being said we have plenty of work to do tonight. Wish us luck!!!

Lyrics of the Day – March 5, 2008

March 5, 2008

At work yesterday, we were talking about the group Hanson. Yes, I know we have already referenced them in this post , but let’s break out one more for old time’s sake. This will be the last Hanson reference on the blog … for a while. The song? “Where’s the Love?”

“Something has been going on and I don’t know what it is
You don’t mind the taking girl, but you don’t know how to give
You drove me crazy but I don’t know baby
You’re thinking that it’s me you’re fooling
Where’s the right in, all of our fighting?
Look at what you’re doing
Where’s the love
It’s not enough
It makes the world go ’round and ’round and…
Where’s the love
Give it up
It makes the world go ’round and ’round and ’round”

Lyrics of the Day – March 4, 2008

March 4, 2008

At work, we did this project called the “Chevy Aveo Livin’ Large Campus Challenge,” where kids lived in a car for a week. This song was actually the theme song for one of the groups. It’s by a guy named Billy Ocean. And it’s called “Get Out of My Dreams (Get Into My Car)”:

“Hey you, get in to my car
Who me?
Yes you, get in to my car
Woooooooooh. Wah! Hey!
Who’s that lady
Coming down the road
Who’s that lady
Who’s that woman
Walking through my door
What’s the score
I’ll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your shoe
I’ll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I’m your man
Get outta my dreams
Get in to my car
Get outta my dream
Get in to the back seat baby
Get in to my car
Beep Beep, yeah”

Lyrics of the Day – March 3, 2008

March 4, 2008

I just played this song for like an hour straight because I liked the way it sounds. Plus, using the tag “Barenaked Ladies” might drive more traffic to the blog. I’m kidding, of course. Sort of. You should all know this one:

“If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I’d buy you a house
(I would buy you a house)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I’d buy you furniture for your house
(Maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I’d buy you a K-Car
(A nice Reliant automobile)
If I had a million dollars I’d buy your love”

Lyrics of the Day – March 2, 2008

March 2, 2008

“Ooh, that’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning”

Who cares that’s it really Sunday evening right now?

Lyrics of the Day – March 1, 2008

March 1, 2008

In honor of Detroit Tiger tickets going on sale today (I better get some), today’s lyrics are “Centerfield” by John Fogerty. Gooooooo Tigers!!!

“Well, beat the drum and hold the phone – the sun came out today!
We’re born again, there’s new grass on the field.
A-roundin’ third, and headed for home, it’s a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way I feel.

Oh, put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Look at me, I can be Centerfield.

Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine, watchin’ it from the bench;
You know I took some lumps when the Mighty Casey struck out.
So Say Hey Willie, tell Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio;
Don’t say “It ain’t so”, you know the time is now.

Oh, put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Look at me, I can be Centerfield.

Yeah! I got it, I got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know I think it’s time to give this game a ride
Just to hit the ball and touch ‘em all – a moment in the sun;
(Pop!) It’s gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Oh, put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Look at me, (yeah!) I can be Centerfield.

Oh, put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Put me in, Coach – I’m ready to play today;
Look at me, gotta be Centerfield.
Yeah!”

Lyrics of the Day – February 29, 2008

February 29, 2008

Seeing as how today is the leap year day, I thought these lyrics would be appropriate. “Calendar Girl” by Neil Sadaka. I’m thinking of doing a remix to this called “Digital Watch Girl” where I go hour by hour. It would be like:

“Midnight, things are not what they seem

1 a.m. I’m sleeping but you’re in my dream”

You get the idea. Enjoy:

“(January) you start the year off fine
(February)you’re my little valentine
(March)I’m gonna march you down the aisle
(April) You’re the Easter Bunny when you smile

Yeah, yeah, my heart’s in a whirl
I love, I love my little calendar girl
Every day (every day), every day (every day) of the year
(Every day of the year)

(May) Maybe if I ask your dad and mom
(June)They’ll let me take to you to the Junior prom
(July) like a firecracker all aglow
(August) When you’re on the beach you steal the show

Yeah, yeah, my heart’s in a whirl
I love, I love, I love my little calendar girl
Every day (every day), every day (every day) of the year
(every day of the year)

(September)Light the candles ay your sweet sixteen
(October) Romeo and Juliet on Halloween
(November)I’ll give tahanks taht you belong to me
(December)You’re the present ‘neath my Christmas tree

Yeah, yeah, my heart’s in a whirl
I love, i love , I love my little calendar girl
Every day (every day), every day (every day) of the year).”
